Building permission for changing roof

Hi all,
just wanted to check if anyone has had similar experience.
I want to do a loft conversion with dormer either side but our roof pitch is too low currently. We are mid terraced in a row of 2 bed houses built 1880's in Bristol. Is it even worth me enquiring about planning for increasing the pitch to allow a pitch? or are am I likely to be laughed out the room because this would make my roof a higher pitch than my neighbours.
any help or guidance would be fantastic.

that should say *to allow a loft conversion.
