converting part of commercial space back to residential in mixed use building

Hello, we have bought a mixed use building with a shop on the ground floor and residential partly down stairs and mostly on the first floor. just wandering if we would need planning to shrink the commercial space and make a bigger residential. we would not be making it into a 2 flats just making our living space bigger. i believe the space we want to convert use to be residential before the previous owners decided to convert it to shop space

From the initial introduction, it does not sound like it would need Planning but it would require Building Regulations. You’re better off checking the Planning situation with your Local Planning Authority.
