I have a chalet house where the first floor is within the roof with dormers to the front and rear. to the eaves to the front and rear are at circa 2.5m high. But on the side elevations we have a barn hip so there is an eaves 5.5m high. We want to build a two storey extension on the rear and the Planners are saying we cannot use the eaves to the barn hips as the highest eaves as they are just 'roof features'. I disagree - any views?

Hmmm, that does sound like a pedantic technicality. In my opinion, you are right in that you have at least two eaves height. Also, you could argue the dormers provide another eaves height.
You may have to research some Appeal cases or law for further clarification.
