Lean to Pergola

hi.
Wondering if I need planning permission for a lean to pergola adding it to my extension.

Will be 2.8m high and 4.6m wide lean to the extension. 2 posts at the front and joist joining the the extension wall. Planning to put flat clear plastic sheets to the top as cover. Open on all sides.

Extension is already 2.4m out from the house.

Would I need planning permission.

Any advice appreciated.

House is in barking and dagenham Borough.

How far out would the pergola project beyond the rear extension wall? Is the dwelling listed or are you in a conservation area?

Not listed building or in a conservation area.

Ahh I missed that out, will project 2.6 meters outward from extension outside wall

I have a feeling Planning may treat a pergola on the same PD criteria as an outbuilding. If it’s located within 2m of a boundary, it should not exceed 2.5m in overall height.

Thanks Damian. Will check with local builders or the council.

I had feared it might kick up a stink with neighbours as it comes out too much or its high. No one has one on my street as far as I can see. Only extensions as far as 2.5meter.

Just thought a pergola won't be classed as building and only a covering/canopy.
