Planning for extending 6-foot fencing

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone will clear up a query for me please. I am looking to replace the 3-foot high fencing around the side of my property (adjacent to the road) with 6-foot high fencing. I understand that as it's next the road this requires planning consent.

However, the reason I'm confused is that the vast majority of the fencing around my property is already 6-foot tall - including half of the bit next to the road!! All I'm looking to do is to make it all the same height.
